Memories make the world go 'round

Memory. It's something we all have, a basic function of humanity that we use every day to some extent. It could be something simple that brings a memory back, like seeing a friend or catching a smell of a particular flower or food that whisks you away to when you were at a particular time in your life.

This is the time of year when, if you're lucky, you've made a lot of new memories. The holidays are great for that since they afford you an opportunity to spend time with friends and family. For the most part, it's the small details that make a memory special. The way someone smiles at the sound of your voice, or how you get that slow-spreading tingle from your toes to your head when you meet that sweet Christmas kitten or puppy for the first time.

As with everything, memory can dim a little over the years. I like to think of it as some get removed to make way for new ones, but we all know that's not always the case.

To help with that, you can consider using various healing crystals that are good with helping you sharpen your memory. It's a small thing, really, when you think about how big a gift it can provide.

Take Fluorite. It might seem like the physical embodiment of a technicolour easter egg, but its qualities offer a lot for those willing to pop it into their pocket. In addition to helping sharpen your memory, Fluorite helps protect you and stabilize your energy. There are other kinds of Fluorite, and you can check out this link to figure out which one works best for you.

Maybe you're thinking that something a little more ... subtle is up your alley? I know, we can't all be in to the multi-colour amazement. So, how about Black Tourmaline?

This is one of our favourites, and for a number of reasons. It can help you deal with anxiety and boost your calmness, while also providing you the ability to remove negative energies when you combine it in a jar with a little sea salt (thanks for that tip to our friends at EnergyMuse.com).

Placing pieces of Black Tourmaline in the four corners of a room will help to amplify its effectiveness, sort of like a metaphysical home surround sound system.

And then there is Amber.

More a fossilized resin than a stone, Amber dates back to more than 300 million years on Earth. Not only does it look nice, it can help you develop patience and wisdom as well as attract good luck.

It's probably not a coincidence that it's the birthstone for Cancer as it reflects the warmest and sunniest months of the year (at least for those of us reading in North America).

The past beats inside me like a second heart. Those words, written by Irish author John Banville in his book The Sea, couldn't be more true.

Get your year started by making some more memories. You now have a few more tools to make them last just a little longer.

Happy 2019.
